MvTv Channel Repeater (Client):

  Hardware Requirements:
Pentium 4 1.5 GHz CPU with 128 MB RAM, enough free space for your videos (1 GB+).

  Software Requirements:
Microsoft Windows XP (Pro recommended), 2000 (Pro recommended).
Microsoft dot Net 2.0

Installation Notes:
  1. Unzip the contents of the MvTv Channel Installation zip package (MvTvRepeaterClientInstall.zip) to an installation folder, then launch the installation by choosing setup.exe. Make sure to select "Everyone" when asked "Install MvTv for yourself, or anyone who uses this computer".

  2. Microsoft has moved the dot Net 2.0 download location. Go here to get it if you need it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en
Make sure you get the latest updates from Windows Update.

  3. When the MvTv Repeater Channel Configuration dialogue box pops up, there will be a few changes you may need to make.

  4. If you will have more than 1 Channel (different content playing at different times), change the Channel ID to the appropriate Channel ID in the text box. (For the demo, leave the Channel ID as 1).

  5. Change the Server URL to your MvTv Repeater Server name or IP Address. (change the entry after the "http://"). (For the demo, change the URL to http://66.244.206.178).

  6. Change the Server Port to the one that the MvTv Repeater Server is set to listen on. (For the demo, change the port number to 8021). You will need to allow access to port 8021 at your firewall.

  7. Trace listening is for debugging... by default it should be off.

  8. Click on Generate Config File, then Close the Editor, to complete the installation.

  9. An MvTv Repeater icon should be placed on your desktop. When double-clicked, it should launch the MvTv Channel. If configured properly, it will start to download the videos scheduled by the MvTv Repeater Administrator. When the clips have been downloaded, a playlist file will be created, and the MvTv Channel will begin playing the playlist content.

  10. The MvTv Channel will contact the MvTv Repeater Server every minute (by default) to see if there's a new playlist or scrolling text to display. If there's new video content that's required to be downloaded, the downloads begin immediately. When all videos that are scheduled to play in the playlist are downloaded, a new playlist is downloaded, and the new content will play in the order as set in the new playlist. If the Internet connection to the Channel is broken, downloads will resume when the Internet connection returns. The MvTv only plays new content once it is stored on the Channel. In this manner, the playback quality isn't affected by how fast or how slow your Internet connection is.

  11. Should you need to make changes to your MvTv Channel configuration, go to the default configuration file location at: C:\Program Files\MicroVideo Learning Systems Inc\MvTv Repeater Client\ClientConfigEditor.exe.

  12. The MvTv Channel can be launched by double-clicking on the MvTv Repeater icon on your desktop. If your configuration is incorrect you may receive an error.
Your MvTv Repeater System must have valid licenses to operate, otherwise you'll receive the error:
"The system is improperly installed and must be shut down". See the MvTv Repeater Server Readme for license info.

13. NOTE: The MvTv is a remoting program that communicates with the IP protocol utilizing ports. If you can't login to the Admin, check to make sure your firewall isn't blocking all ports. Either turn your firewall off (just for testing) or add the required port number as an exception (preferred method).

  Tips:

  1. The MvTv Channel is meant to be a stand-alone or remote controlled device, and should be the only application running in the foreground of your PC other than during testing. For this reason there's no shut down button. The MvTv Channel can be closed from the Windows Task Manager. Use "CTRL-ALT-DEL", then click on the Processes tab from the Windows Task Manager. Select MvTvClient.exe, then the "End Process" button. Also, select ProcessController.exe, then the "End Process" button.

  2. The ProcessController.exe is set to restart the MvTv Repeater Channel at 3:59 am every day, in order to flush out any memory leaks caused by the MvTv Channel playing videos all day. If more than one ProcessController.exe is found in the Windows Task Manager, the processes should be ended.

  3. In a real production setting, make sure you do the following on the MvTv Channel:
    a) Turn off the PC's screen saver
    b) if the PC will be remote, make sure you have a way to contact the PC remotely... Windows XP Pro is recommended as it includes Remote Desktop
    c) make sure you have a firewall protecting the PC and only open the ports for MvTv and remote control. Microsoft's Personal Firewall works well.
